No, the Global Black Forum is a platform to help international stakeholders virtually connect with the African diaspora and international community, across generations, nations and sectors. Lawrence International is our parent organization and a business consulting firm that provides research, writing, and media relations support.
The Global Black Forum was created by Lawrence International founder and CEO, DaQuan Lawrence, MIPP. Lawrence is a fomer Research Analyst at the Urban Institute who worked on health policy research related to health equity, racial disparities, substance use disorder, opioid use disorder, Medicaid and Medicare, as well as social and economic inequality research. He is currently a graduate assistant in the Center for African Studies at Howard University, and a Ph.D. candidate in Howard’s African Studies department. His dissertation "Urban Class Structure in Post-Apartheid South Africa: Case Studies from Johannesburg, Soweto, and Tshwane (Pretoria)", is a mixed methods study that investigates social stratification in urban South Africa.
Due to his background in foster homes in NYC with his orphaned teenage mother and experience in urban poverty, he has dedicated his life to serving and advocating for marginalized individuals. For the previous eight years, Lawrence has worked for Washington DC-based nonprofits and international nongovernment organizations on policy programs, research, and human rights advocacy. He has experience working on public policy research in Haiti, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Liberia, South Africa and in the United States. Lawrence utilizes his experience in advocacy, public policy, and research to lead the nonprofit he cofounded, Strong Men Overcoming Obstacles Through Hard-work, (SMOOTH) Inc., which is a mentoring, professional development and community service organization for Black males.
Lawrence is a graduate of Morgan State University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and a member of the International Civil Society Working Group for the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. In his spare time, he works as an international reporter for The Afro American Newspapers, and as the News and Politics Editor for The Hilltop at Howard University, the oldest Black family-owned newspaper and the oldest Black collegiate newspaper in America, respectively.
